TED Talk "How to stay calm when you know you'll be stressed" by Daniel Levitin
Levitin explores the science of stress in this session, as well as ways we can control it to maximize our performance under pressure.

He starts out by describing stress as a normal reaction to danger or threat. The hormones cortisol and adrenaline are released by our systems when we are under stress, preparing us for either fighting or running away. Although this is a beneficial response in the short term, these hormones can be harmful to our health if we are constantly stressed.
Levitin continues by talking about several methods for stress management. One key strategy is to pay attention to our breathing. Stress causes us to breathe more quickly and shallowly. Our muscles and thoughts can be calmed by taking long, deep breaths.
Mindfulness exercises are another beneficial strategy. Being present at the moment without passing judgment is the practice of mindfulness. We are less likely to become consumed by unfavorable thoughts and feelings when we are mindful.
Levitin advises us to find constructive ways to let our stress out. This may entail engaging in physical activity, speaking with a friend or therapist, or doing creative things.
This discussion was quite educational and beneficial, in my opinion. I've been applying some of the strategies Levitin talked about, and I've seen a change in my capacity to control stress. Anyone looking for stress-reduction strategies should absolutely listen to this talk, in my opinion.
Here are some of the primary ideas from the talk that I found most useful:
- Although stress is a normal reaction to danger or threat, prolonged stress can have a harmful impact on our health.
- There are several methods we may employ to handle stress, like paying attention to our breathing, engaging in mindfulness, and coming up with constructive ways to let our stress out.
- Make stress management a regular part of your life by discovering what works best for you.
I believe that each of these things should be kept in mind, especially for those looking for tech-related jobs. Having appropriate coping skills in place is crucial because the tech business can be extremely demanding. By applying the advice from this talk, you can learn to control your tension and give your best effort even while under pressure.
